I start this Friday with a reminder of how quickly time goes by and how precious our lives are because of those we share it with. It can change in a very short moment, but the impact will last a lifetime. Our company’s founder, Jerry Merriman, was remembered this week in a celebration of his life after passing away on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Jerry and Deby founded our firm, Merriman Associates/ Architects, Inc., in 1987 - two people and a dream filled with passion, persistence, and vision to be the best.
Jerry’s vision has resulted in a Dallas firm of more than 70 people as well as offices in Charlotte and Austin. Our Dallas team and our partners, Steve Schmitt in Charlotte and Brett Pitt in Austin, continue to grow with the same values and vision that Jerry and Deby started over 36 years ago. Jerry’s legacy and love for architecture is remembered and reflected in the Dallas skyline as well as cities across the United States. Jerry’s leadership and marketing skills also took the firm across the world with projects in several countries.
I am honored to be part of the firm’s leadership and am writing this note today after two weeks of time and tears since Jerry has gone on to be with the Lord. We all learned valuable lessons from Jerry along the way and carry those with us as we strive to honor him as stewards of the legacy that he left for us.
I will finish with something I learned and heard from Jerry on many occasions. Jerry never ended a call with Deby, or any of their family, without saying, “I Love you”. We love you Jerry and thank you and Deby for founding a company that we will continue to grow with respect, dignity, and honor in memory of you. God Bless.
