Hill Country Chapel

A peaceful, intimate space that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

Nestled on a hillside in Texas, the Chapel is a peaceful, intimate space that blends seamlessly with its surroundings. It is made of quarry-cut limestone blocks that provide a sturdy foundation and enclosure, while a delicate steel frame supports the roof. The walls have 12-foot cantilevers that extend outward and finish with a thin edge, creating a floating effect above the stained glass. The Chapel is designed sustainably, using eco-friendly materials and systems that operate quietly in the floor plenum space between the earth and the foundation. During the day, natural light fills the space through the veiled windows, and solar collectors provide soft lighting at night. Rainwater is collected and used to irrigate the surrounding landscape and support the facility's water needs.
