Nominations for the different categories of awards are made from historic hotels, historic preservation supporters, prior award recipients, community leaders, and leadership from Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. Over 200 nominations were made to 17 award categories.
“The Statler will always be an iconic building in the Southwest,” said Merriman Anderson/Architects Principal and Team Leader Adam Jones. “We are grateful to have had the opportunity to help restore this historical building and allow the public to once again experience its significant architecture and design.”
The Statler, located in downtown Dallas, opened in 1956 as the largest hotel in the Southwest with 1,001 rooms. It soon became an icon of mid-20th century design with its innovative architecture features. In 2001, the hotel closed and remained vacant for the following 16 years. In 2015, MAA began the redesign work for the renovation and restoration of the building.
In 2017, The Statler opened as a multi-use project including The Statler Dallas, Curio Collection by Hilton with 159 hotel rooms, The Statler Residences with 219 units, five unique food and beverage outlets, specialty retail outlets, 33,000 square-feet of meeting and event space, a 19th-floor rooftop pool and lounge, multi-use fitness center, and a bowling alley. A mid-century modern design is incorporated throughout the space.
The Statler is now owned and developed by Centurion American Development Group.
